3-Day AKHANDA YOGA Retreat with Yogi Vishvketu
at Sylvan Lake Baha’i Center, Alberta
August 20 – August 22, 2010
Arrival on Friday afternoon at 3PM for yoga class at 4PM
Departure on Sunday early afternoon

Fees: $325 + GST ($16.25) = $341.25
Join us at the scenic Bahai Centre in picturesque Sylvan Lake for a rejuvenating retreat with a community of other yoga enthusiasts. This retreat will include a variety of Akhanda (holistic) Yoga practices: invigorating Classical Kundalini, restorataive Hatha-Raja and deep and slow Akhanda I-II Yoga during our asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation sessions morning 6-8:30 and evening 4-6. There will be a daily discussion hour for exploring the daily contemplations from the Yoga Sutras, Upanishads and other Yogic texts, as well as evening mantra and transformational experiences sessions.

Join Kushok for a half-day workshop on Calm Abiding Meditation. In today’s busy society it’s often difficult to find the time to relax. Join Kushok as he explains how to find calmness and peace through resting the mind on a single object. By taking time to slow down our mental activity, health can be improved and stress and fatigue can be reduced.

Reduce stress, tension and fatigue through the practice of Calm Abiding Meditation. In today’s busy society, this meditation allows students to relax and recharge with positive energy by learning to rest the mind on a single object.

Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe is a Tibetan Monk from Namgyal Monastery, the personal monastery of the 14 Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India.  He is a master of Buddhist scripture, philosophy chanting and meditation.  Kushok is also the Spritual Director of Gaden Samten Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Society. Yoga for Breath & Voice

Would you like chanting to be easier, and more fun?  Do you have a burning desire (or even a subtle curiosity...) for your voice to reach it's full potential?  In this fun and safe workshop we will explore vocal yoga, natural breathing, metaphorical movement and chanting, all focused toward the exploration of our True Voice.  Creativity, Laughter, Joy, and Exuberant Self-Expression will soon follow. This workshop is for everyone - for those who can sing, and especially for those who think they can't!

David Wilson (B.Mus, M.Mus) is a Singer, Conductor, Voice Teacher, Certified Yoga Instructor (1995), and Breath Therapist. David is the founder of Body, Breath, & Voice Integrative Therapy; he leads over sixty workshops a year in schools, offices, community centers and hospitals on the use of yoga, breath and voice to develop physical and mental health, vocal strength, and personal confidence, as well as to unleash one’s full creative potential. Yogi Vishvketu and World Conscious Yoga Family have had a huge influence on Prana Yoga Studio's owners and teachers, from inspiration, to philosophy, to vision.  We are thrilled to be hosting and participating in this upcoming training, and we hope you can join us!
For those who would like to deepen their insights into the science of Yoga and Ayurveda, as well as pursue teaching certification, this is the perfect opportunity.
Program of Study:
• Form, method of instruction, benefits and cautions of 108 asanas (postures), 10 pranayamas (breathing techniques) and 2 kriyas (cleansing techniques)
• Learning to create various class-styles: Gentle, Intermediate and Power Hatha yoga
• Teaching methodology, including yoga for diverse ages and student groups, such as prenatal yoga, yoga for children, and yoga for the elderly
• Anatomy and the physical/mental benefits of yoga
• Subtle yogic anatomy and the Chakras
• Introduction to Ayurveda, nutrition, and the yogic diet
• Ashtanga philosophy (the eight-fold path)
• Study and discussion of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, aphorisms giving insight into profound yogic practices, as well as their life-transforming benefits
• Teaching practicum and feedback from the trainers

This training is recommended for those who would like to teach yoga, as well as for those who would like to add dimension to their own practice while increasing experiential knowledge of this ancient lineage of learning.
This program will be a unique blend of in-town and retreat-style yoga study. The first three weeks will be held at Prana Yoga Studio in Edmonton, Monday – Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. The final week, Monday, August 23 – Sunday August 29, will be an ashram-style retreat at the Sylvan Lake Baha'i Centre. It will be an intensive week of mantra, meditation, asana, pranayama and teaching practice leading up to graduation!
