This 300-hour certification course (which gives a graduate a total of 500-hours of training in combination with their previous YTT 200) is intended only for graduates of a Yoga Alliance recognized 200-hour teacher training program or equivalent. Core and elective modules can also be audited by any committed yoga students.

Yoga teaching is an art that refines and evolves as we do. This is never static, but something that develops directly through our own authenticity and through immersion in yoga practice, philosophy and lifestyle. There are no set rules or structures, but a rich tradition to draw from in our explorations. Yoga teacher training is a huge support for this development.

The YTT 300 group will explore the transformative power of diverse aspects of the yoga tradition both theoretically and experientially, and provide the opportunity for students to share reflections and personal experiences in a supportive community of yogis and teachers. The course offers the following elements: Techniques, Teaching Methodology, Philosophy-Lifestyle-Ethics, Anatomy (physical and subtle), and a Teaching Practicum.

The 300 hour program is a modular based program designed to combine core modules with elective modules.

Core Module #1 – Advanced Anatomy – Returning Fall 2017!

This training fulfills the Yoga Alliance requirements for Continuing Education. It is also a core module for the Prana 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training.

Explore holistic yoga and how it works within the physical & subtle bodies as an integrated, unified system.

What you can expect from this module:

* The Art of Asana: flow, form & function
* How breath revolutionizes body alignment
* A deeper understanding of spinal & pelvic connectivity
* Functional core: Exploring the pelvic floor, core and bandhas in isolation and within postures & transitions
* Anatomy of Connective Tissue: learn about piezoelectric energy and its role in fascia, joints and more.
* Explore common injuries and how to work with them in yoga classes.
* Using postures and teamwork, we will explore different options, modifications and adjustments for various body types and limited mobility concerns.

Core Module #2 – Akhanda Yoga Immersion

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about Akhanda Yoga, now is the time! If you’ve already done an Akhanda Yoga 200 hour YTT, this immersion will take you further into the amazing forest of learning that you tasted in your course!

Akhanda Yoga is the universal path of yoga preserved in it’s holistic form, as a science of self-realization and inner balance.  Akhanda means whole and indivisible, and refers to both our innermost nature, and the complete tradition of yoga. In the west yoga is often diluted to be made purely physical, ignoring the other four sheaths of consciousness in form, the Koshas. Instead striving primarily for physical strength and balance, Akhanda yoga informs us how to absorb and contain vital life force energy in our physical and subtle bodies. This holistic style was founded by Himalayan Master and Teacher, Yogrishi Vishvketu. Asana, pranayama, mantra, philosophy, meditation and joy and incorporated into each practice.

What you can expect from this weekend:

– A new exploration of the history of yoga, the 8 limb path & Patanjali’s yoga sutras.
– Introduction of Kosha Yoga: the five sheaths: physical, pranic, mental, wisdom/oneness, & bliss layers.
– Asana practice, techniques & sequencing specific to Kosha yoga
– Ayurveda: cultivation & preservation of vitality, exploring Prana, Tejas and Ojas
– Mantra used Akhanda Yoga, the practice, the benefits & how to present.
– Pranayama techniques – khapalabhati advanced, alternate nostril with retentions, 3 part yogic breathing review & application.

Core Module #3 Chakras & Sound –   February 10-12 2017

This training fulfills the Yoga Alliance requirements for Continuing Education. It is also a core module for the Prana 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training. This module is open to all teachers, and can also be audited by committed students.
Cost: $375+GST

What you can expect from this module:

  • A deeper understanding of mantra, the history of mantra, and the purpose behind it
  • A knowledge of cleansing techniques
  • Learn multiple mantras
  • Gain a significant insight into each of the 7 chakras
  • Learn how nadis, chakras and mantra all work together

In this module, we will link chakras and sound, exploring both intricately. The connection between chakras, nadis and yogic philosophy will be explored. We will also work with mantra, learning more about the history of mantra, and what sounds affect our bodies.

 Core Module #4 Deep into Philosophy – March 10-12, 2017

  • Dive deep into Samskaras (patterning)
  • Explore the Ojas, Kriyas, and the Vedas
  • Explore The Bhagavad Gita
  • Explore the Upanishads, and more! 
  • Explore some pose techniques such as: Inclined Plane, Pigeon and Cow Face Pose

 

 

Core Module #5 Advanced Methodology, Alignment & Postures –  May 12-14, 2017

This training fulfills the Yoga Alliance requirements for Continuing Education. It is also a core module for the Prana 300 hour Yoga Teacher TrainingThis module is open to all teachers, and can also be audited by committed students.

What you can expect from this module:

  • Learn about Hatha Raja – a form of yoga developed by Yogi Vishvketu using honeybee breath during postures
  • Explore postures such as bird of paradise, locust, handstand, scorpion and more
  • Learn how to sequence classes to build to a peak pose
  • Learn how to sequence for different doshas
  • Learn about power disparity and ethics within yoga

 

 

  

Core Module #6 – Retreat! May 29-June 1
Lead teacher: Yogi Vishvketu

The training culminates with a retreat lead by Yogi Vishvketu at the beautiful Sanctum Retreat Center in Caroline, AB. This week is an unforgettable immersion into the deeper aspects of yoga in an ashram-like setting, finishing with graduation and naming ceremony!

 


 

Elective Modules

115 hours of elective modules need to be taken to compliment the 165 hours. Being that these are elective modules, you are welcome to take a variety that suit your interest. Elective modules can be taken over a 3 year period. Proof of attendance must be given if required.

NOTE: If you have, in the past 3 years, taken other intensives, please let us know as we may be able to count them towards elective hours for this 300 hour training.

TECHNIQUES

Learn to work with students in advanced asana and pranayama, and to teach diverse student bodies using props and focused assists. 

 

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Explore the art of sequencing, language use, creating a transformational space, and design classes. Learn to teach two unique and profound class-styles designed by Yogrishi Vishvketu: Hatha-Raja (A unique meditative flow practiced with the sonorous Brahmaree pranayama) and Classical Kundalini (An uplifting sequence that integrates postures, oscillating movements, Tantric Bija mantras, pranayama and chakra meditation). 

   

PHILOSOPHY – LIFESTYLE – ETHICS

Teachings and discussions of yoga philosophy through history with reference to the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. We will also explore the ethics of the yoga teaching profession.

Denise Currie (Sukranti) has a passion for the wholeness, health, and awakening of the human spirit. Her spiritual longings and her study of the healing arts came together when she discovered the practice of yoga. She recognized that yoga has the potential to help us discover our hidden depths through inquiry and personal investigation, literally breathing life into unexplored and disavowed parts of ourselves. This recognition inspired her to complete her 200 and 500hr trainings with Yogi Vishvketu of Rishikesh, India. She has over 30 years experience teaching group fitness, and has had 10 years experience as a personal trainer. In addition to teaching yoga and anatomy to yoga teacher trainees, she is a registered massage therapist and has been training other massage therapists for the past 6 years.

Leala’s yoga journey began in 1992 in NYC. Her first yoga class sparked a sense that there was much more to life than what the world had presented to her. Within a year, she had moved to the remote side of Maui where she met David Williams and began a three month intensive study of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. She went on to develop an steady home practice. Living in community on Maui and traveling, she taught whoever wanted to learn, including the Secoya indigenous people in the Amazon tributaries of Ecuador. During this time, Leala began practicing Vipassana meditation, attending numerous 10 day silent retreats. In 2000, Leala attended an Ashtanga Yoga teachers training course with renowned instructor David Swenson and in 2003 completed her 200 hour training through Trinity Yoga.

After moving to Alberta’s dry climate, intensive physical yoga practices began leaving her deeply fatigued. Leala began seeking a more holistic approach to yoga, one that would synergize her love of meditation, mindfulness, breath and embodied movement. She had a dream where she met and merged with an Indian sage who fused yoga and meditation into heart centered awakening. A few weeks later she met Yogi Vishvketu and began her journey into Akhanda® Yoga.

In 2006 Leala founded Prana Yoga Studio in Edmonton, Canada where she hosts workshops and trainings with Yogi Vishvketu every year. Leala is the Director of Training for the Akhanda Yoga Teacher Training program at Prana Yoga Studio. Along with owning a busy urban yoga studio, Leala has raised a family, guided international yoga retreats, and taught numerous YTT programs in both Canada and India. Leala’s passions include practicing yoga outdoors, hiking, swimming and quality time with her husband and their two vivacious daughters.

AprilCantafio3I am ever amazed as to how I jumped into my first yoga class more than a decade ago (2000). At that time I was overly shy, cautious and would rarely stray into the unknown. To be honest I knew nothing about yoga. But there seemed to be some kind of energetic pull that brought me to class that day and continued to draw me back time and time again.

I fell in love with the sense of peace, clarity and overall awareness that appeared during and after class. I began to understand and value the unification of the body, breath and mind. Within a short while I became utterly fascinated by the physical and subtle bodies and began to immerse myself into any style of yoga or healing discipline that my teachers (Deb and Lacie Cosgrove) were offering, from Kundalini Yoga to Ashtanga and Reiki/Energy Healing to Thai Yoga Massage.

Over the years my practice naturally led to teaching, as I taught my first class in 2004. Although I was nervous I experienced an overwhelming sense of gratitude to share the wonderful gift of yoga and the breath. I knew then and there that teaching would be a path I would explore more deeply in the future. From that point on I subbed and assisted classes under the guidance of my teachers, Deb and Lacie. However, it wasn’t until finishing my Bachelor of Design that I was able to furthur my training. First completing the 200YTT Ashtanga training and later the Sattva training with Rameen Peyrow, then traveling to India to study with the ever blissful Yogi Vishvketu at his ashram for the 200YTT in 2010 and 500YTT in 2012 . I feel blessed to have had such wonderful opportunities to immerse myself in the practice of yoga. I truly believe that yoga has guided me in ways that I may not even realize yet and thus have chosen to dedicate this life to the discovery of the self and ultimately union.

VishvketuYogi Vishvketu has studied and practiced Hatha and Raja yoga and the Vedic healing arts in northernIndia since childhood. From the age of 8, he studied Vedic wisdom at Kanvashram in the foothills of the Himalayas. With its historic temple and Ayurvedic clinic, Kanvashram attracts many yogic saints and Ayurvedic masters and was an ideal place to absorb these ancient healing and consciousness-raising traditions.

Vishva went on to attain a Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Humanities with a specialization in yoga, as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in Yoga Philosophy. While at the University of Haridwar, he also pursued courses in Naturopathy, Reike, Pranic Healing, and Yoga Therapy. In 1992 and 1995, he won the All India Inter-University Yoga Championships. He moved to Ottawa in 2001, where he continues to dedicate himself to teaching the arts of yoga and Ayurveda. Internationally, he offers holistic yoga workshops including asana, pranayama, cleansing kriyas, Ayurveda and Vedic chanting. He also offers yoga teacher training programs, and retreats for dedicated practitioners in Canada and in the foothills of the Himalayas. The teacher training programs are recognized by the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. Vishvaji visits Prana Yoga Studio yearly for workshops, retreats and to teach our final week of yoga teacher training at Sanctum Retreat Center.   Akhanda Yoga website
