Our everyday movements and bodily functions depend a great deal on our pelvic health. This topic isn’t commonly discussed and many people suffer in silence with pelvic health issues, luckily yoga can help! Research shows that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will have incontinence issues. Other common concerns include: pelvic floor prolapse, constipation, low back pain, issues with pregnancy or postpartum recovery, scar tissue, fertility and sexual dysfunction. These issues are all common but they are NOT normal! If this sounds familiar to you, please know that with increased awareness and knowledge that many of these issues can be resolved.
Join Colleen for a 90 minute class where you will learn about the function of the pelvic floor and the muscles that hold the important organs of reproduction and elimination. She will offer breathing techniques and yoga postures to help support and strengthen this area of your body. The ancient yogis understood the importance of directing energy upwards into this area. “Asvini mudra” describes the contraction of the pelvic floor while “Mula bandha” is the lifting of the pelvic floor. These two techniques will be explored in depth so that you understand how to apply them in your yoga practice and your everyday movements.
This class is not just for those who identify as female, it is for everyone. An information and resource sheet will be provided to all participants.
